From Lawn to Living

Boise foothills full yard renovation

This project was a complete transformation of a property in the Boise Foothills, focused on creating a beautiful, low-maintenance, and water-wise landscape. The client wanted to significantly reduce their front yard lawn and replace it with native grasses and drought-tolerant perennials that could thrive with minimal irrigation — eventually requiring only once-a-week watering. An important goal was to improve accessibility for the client’s elderly parents, so I designed a safe, gently graded staircase that connects seamlessly to the entry path. We incorporated meandering pathways through the front yard to create a natural flow, allowing the homeowners to enjoy the seasonal interest of their plantings up close.

The backyard was fully reimagined with a large, naturalistic water feature as the centerpiece, surrounded by stone hardscaping that creates multiple outdoor living zones. A covered pergola area and custom garden shed provide both function and style, while a dedicated fire pit area with seating offers a perfect gathering space.

The result is a cohesive, sustainable landscape that balances beauty, function, and long-term water efficiency — creating a space the clients can enjoy year-round.
